strategy & design for
Cape Town Swing
a dance community built around Swing Era jazz.
Context
Cape Town Swing is a community first and a dance school second — its real value is the inclusive, welcoming culture it has built around the dance. A generic class-listing site would have missed the point entirely. The challenge was to build a digital home that carried the warmth and ethos of the community, while still doing the practical work of guiding people to classes, workshops and events.
Approach
I treated the site as an extension of the community rather than a brochure for it. The values of inclusivity and belonging lead the experience, with the practical offerings organised clearly beneath them. A blog and resources section turn the site into something people return to — not just a place to check a timetable, but a part of the community itself.
Outcome
A site that feels like the community it represents: welcoming and alive, while making it genuinely easy for newcomers to find their way in.
